Transforming Energy and Ecology: Energy Storage Project in the Demonstration Zone of Green and Integrated Ecological Development of the Yangtze River Delta
11-09-2024
By 2035, a world-class Water Town Parlor, featuring the integrated development of industries, residences, culture, and ecology, will be fully established in the Yangtze River Delta. The Yangtze River Delta Institute for Sustainable Development (YISD), located within the Water Town Parlor, is committed to establishing a platform for scientific and technological innovation and a demonstration base for carbon-neutral technologies to promote sustainable development in the Yangtze River Delta region. WeView’s zinc-iron flow battery is a significant initiative in the field of energy storage for the YISD. A 100kW/400kWh zinc-iron flow battery energy storage system has been installed at the institute. WeView’s zinc-iron (Zn/Fe) flow battery operates using a safe chemistry that is non-toxic, non-flammable, and non-explosive. The electrolytes employed are food-grade and readily available at a low cost. The zinc-iron flow battery chemistries offer a lifespan of 20 years or more without capacity fade or degradation. WeView achieves this unique performance by utilizing a hybrid flow battery in which alkaline electrochemical components are dissolved in the electrolyte.
WeView’s zinc-iron flow batteries are paired with solar photovoltaics within the park. Through the Energy-Carbon Smart Management Platform, these batteries can be charged with electricity from the grid, stored, and discharged during supply deficits or when energy prices are at their peak.
The Water Town Parlor zero-carbon demonstration project has exemplified how green technology can drive the energy transition and provide a practical path to achieving the dual carbon goal. The success of this project offers valuable experience and inspiration for other regions and industries, illustrating the feasibility and necessity of green transformation. As more smart energy solutions are implemented, people will accelerate towards a cleaner and more sustainable future.
